Rubrics

Teachers have the flexibility to choose a rubric that meets their students’ needs for each writing assignment.

OPTION 1: USE A STATE / DISTRICT / NATIONAL ASSESSMENT RUBRIC

Graders are trained on numerous state and national assessment rubrics (College Board, STAAR, Georgia Milestones, FSA, ANET, Smarter Balanced, and more). Contact your school administrator or the Marco Learning team to have a specific rubric added to your account.

OPTION 2: USE A MARCO LEARNING RUBRIC

The rubrics featured below are Common Core State Standards aligned rubrics developed by Marco Learning. The ELA rubrics use a framework called “PODS”, which stands for Purpose, Organization, Development, and Style. Each rubric in the Middle School and High School series uses these four components to promote consistency in language and expectations across assignments. Click the icons below to review, print, and share. Please contact us if you need our rubrics added to your account!

OPTION 3: USE A TEACHER OR SCHOOL CREATED RUBRIC

If you plan to use your own rubric, be sure it adheres to our rubric policy!

  • Analytic or holistic
  • A description of what each level of attainment means for each rubric component (no range scoring)
  • No more than 10 rubric components (ideally 3-5 components)
  • No more than 10 levels (ideally 3-5 levels)
  • No undefined half-points (i.e., Graders cannot assign point values between the levels described on the rubric.)
  • Limit check-list style requirements in rubrics (i.e., Readers should not be asked to count conventions errors or the number of quotes used. These may, in some cases, be helpful indicators, but should not drive scoring decisions.)
