In 2022, The College Board announced that they would be introducing the option of a digital exam for seven AP subjects, to be available in the 2023 AP Exam season. Read on for more information about the new digital AP Exams.
Is this relevant to me?
Starting in May 2023, some AP Exams will be available to take in digital format. So if you’re taking an AP Exam in May of 2023, this might be relevant to you, depending on your school and the subjects you’re taking.
Which subjects will the digital AP Exams be available in?
The digital exam option will be available for:
- Computer Science Principles
- English Language
- English Literature
- European History
- Seminar
- U.S. History
- World History
Will the digital exams be shorter than the paper-and pencil exams?
No! These are full-length exams taken in a proctored environment at school or in a designated testing center.
Can I take a digital AP Exam at home?
Digital AP Exams will be administered in schools only, on school-managed devices.
Where will the digital exam be available?
The 7 digital AP Exam options will be available for anyone in the 48 contiguous United States. It will not be available to anyone in Alaska, Hawaii, or in foreign countries.
What dates are the digital AP Exams?
Digital exams will have the same schedule as paper exams. Check out the 2023 AP Exam schedule here.
Will I be able to return to a question on the digital AP Exams?
You CAN go back and forth on short essay and multiple choice questions as long as you haven’t moved on to a new section.
Do I have to take a digital AP Exam?
It is up to your school to choose to offer digital only, paper only, or a choice of either option.
